About the Trainings

Learn more about this training opportunity.

This training opportunity is for public health professionals who want to integrate principles of equity, inclusion and diversity into the policies, practices and progress of their team, unit or organization. The workshops are interactive in nature, and the focus is on practical knowledge and skills that participants can apply within the workplace.

These workshops were originally created for staff at the North Carolina Division of Public Health, but they are also relevant to professionals at local health departments in North Carolina.

Each of these three-hour workshops addresses a different topic related to equity in the workplace.

  • Introduction to Organizational Equity: This workshop focuses on taking equity principles from conceptualization to implementation. Attendees will focus on turning equity goals into measurable processes and outcomes, formulating related evaluation plans, and identifying necessary structures for accountability.
  • Analyzing Workplace Policies and Practices for Equity: This workshop focuses on using existing policies and practices within participants’ organizations to identify opportunities to improve organizational equity.
  • Developing an Equity Action Plan: This workshop is designed for participants that have begun preliminary conversations and/or data collection to assess equity in their respective organizations. They will work to identify SMARTIE goals, necessary action steps and measures of success. Participants should expect to complete this workshop with an outline of a potential equity action plan for their organization.
  • Co-Creating a Culture of Belonging: Participants of this workshop will evaluate their existing organizational structure to identify effective methods for establishing sustainable workplace norms that are informed and championed by all members of the organization.

For each workshop, an optional “office hour” session is also available. During office hours, participants have the opportunity to discuss the workshop content with faculty.
