About the Leadership Institute
The North Carolina Public Health Leadership Institute (NCPHLI) is a year-long leadership development program for public health professionals from the North Carolina Division of Public Health and local public health agencies across the state. This program provides a unique opportunity for state and local practitioners to come together to network with each other, learn about adaptive leadership skills and apply those skills to a relevant challenge in their organization or community.
Past participants have commented that the leadership skills and abilities they developed in this program include: resilience, communication, collaboration and creating a shared vision and embracing change.

Updates
The traditional NCPHLI program has been on pause since 2021. In recognition of the issues around equity that were elevated during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the extraordinary ongoing pressures on North Carolina Public Health professionals, we have been offering new professional development opportunities focused on equity:
- In 2021-2022 we piloted a new equity-focused webinar series. In 2022-2023, we reconceptualized the series and launched NCPHLI: Leading with Equity, a nine-month program that guided participants through advancing equity-driven change in their agencies:
- In 2024, we are offering a new, recurring workshop for public health professionals: Advancing Equity Through Communication. We hope you will join us!
