Please be sure to review all of the information below if you are approaching graduation. Take your time to work through the checklist and follow the appropriate links to be sure that you have completed anything that’s needed to make your graduation clearance process seamless. Also please check program specific requirements at the bottom of this page.
Graduation Checklist:
1. Apply to Graduate in Connect Carolina
- Gillings has one Commencement Ceremony in May
- You will not receive the necessary information for graduation if you don’t apply.
2. Check your records
- Make sure that you have satisfied all program requirement and that all grades have been granted and/or updated (IN, AB, NR). If you notice a missing grade, contact the faculty member for that course.
- Check that your Study Abroad or Interinstitutional course grades have been recorded in Connect Carolina
- Check for Holds in Connect Carolina
- Update Mailing Address and Name
3. Register for Gillings Commencement Ceremony
4. Check University Commencement Page
5. Hooding Ceremony

6. Order Regalia
7. International Students
8. Complete Exit Survey*
*Graduate Students Only
- You will receive an email from the Graduate School which must be completed to be cleared for graduation.
9. Check your email
- Any updates regarding your graduation status will be sent to your UNC email.
