Using Flexible Interdisciplinary Research Groups (FIRGs)-a multidisciplinary approach that responds to critical environmental health sciences questions and evolves with research findings–investigators in the UNC Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility (CEHS) study the environmental and genetic determinants of disease in populations and enhance basic research on mechanisms of toxicity of hazardous chemicals, with an ultimate goal of reducing the burden of environmentally related disease.
