Student Affairs Ecosystem Initiative - 6/28/19

It’s been an exciting two weeks of progress on the Ecosystem!

• We matched staff members to positions and reviewed draft assignments with the dean, department chairs and other key department leaders. This helped ensure that assignments “felt right” to people with many different vantage points. We met our target to complete this work by the end of June, and are really grateful to chairs and others who rearranged schedules in order to make reviews a priority.
• In all review sessions, we identified questions and concerns about early transition, to be revisited in department-level transition planning meetings in July.
• We began notifying staff of their new assignments today and are hoping to complete the notifications next week (until then, assignments are confidential). Staff will continue to work in their current positions through July.  We expect them to begin their new assignments formally around August 1. Flexibility in transition will be key and is one of the items we’re already working through.
• External recruitment of the remaining 6 unfilled positions starts next week.
• Many people are already working hard on aspects of the transition. We’ve scheduled the Student Affairs staff retreat for July 26^th and agenda planning is underway. Our top priorities are ensuring students know what to expect, and staff and faculty are ready to work quickly to resolve unanticipated bumps in the road. Of course in any change initiative, there are always a few!
