Ibrahim receives dual ASA appointments

Dr. Joseph G. Ibrahim
Joseph G. Ibrahim, PhD, Alumni Distinguished Professor of biostatistics, was appointed recently as coordinating editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association (JASA) and editor of JASA‘s section on Applications and Case Studies. As coordinating editor, Ibrahim will work with the editors of the journal’s other two sections – Theory and Methods, and Reviews. “JASA is the top journal in the field,” noted Michael Kosorok, PhD, professor and chair of the biostatistics department. “The Applications and Case Studies section of the journal focuses on cutting-edge work in the applied aspects of biostatistics and statistics. The appointment of Dr. Ibrahim to this top applied statistics post in the profession acknowledges his distinguished professional achievements and brings tremendous recognition to the department in the area of applied research.” Established in 1888 and published quarterly, JASA long has been considered the premier journal of statistical science. Ibrahim previously served as an associate editor for JASA‘s Applications and Case Studies and Theory and Methods sections, as well as for Biometrics, Bayesian Analysis and other prominent journals. He directs the Center for Innovative Clinical Trials and the Biostatistics and Data Management Core Facility of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also co-principal investigator for the National Cancer Institute’s “Statistical Methods for Cancer Clinical Trials,” which Kosorok co-leads.
