April 13, 2011
North Carolinians will know more about what contaminates their well water, what happens to mothers exposed to medical radiation, and why asthma rates are high in schools near industrial hog farms, thanks to the work of graduate students at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. These and other outstanding projects were recognized on April 6, as The Graduate School at UNC held its 12th annual Graduate Student Recognition Celebration at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center’s Carolina Club.

Honored were winners of external fellowships, inductees into University honorary societies and University Research Day winners (see list below). The centerpiece of the event was a research poster presentation by recipients of the Graduate Education Advancement Board’s 2011 Impact Awards, which recognize research providing special benefits to the citizens of North Carolina.
