(Chapel Hill, NC) — Rebecca Wells, PhD, MHSA, has joined the faculty of the School of Public Health’s Department of Health Policy and Administration as an assistant professor.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Wells was an assistant professor of health policy and administration at Penn State University, where she was a member of the faculty since 1999. In addition, she was a Health Services Research & Development Predoctoral Fellow at the Veterans Health Administration in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and she was also a consultant and research associate for the Henry Ford Health Systems.

“Rebecca makes a wonderful addition to our faculty and we’re so fortunate to have her,” said Dr. Peggy Leatt, chair of the department. “With her strong academic research background and excellent teaching skills, the department will benefit greatly from her intelligence, organizational knowledge, and dedication to multidisciplinary health services research.”

Wells received her PhD in health care organizational studies from the University of Michigan, where she also received her MHSA in health care management. She received her BA from Princeton University, majoring in public and international affairs.

Her area of expertise and research examines how health and human service organizations’ management affects their capacity to serve vulnerable populations. Current funded research focuses on factors affecting participation in community-based health promotion coalitions. Articles by Wells have been published in Health Topics, Health Care Management Review, Health Services Management Research, Health Services Research, Medical Care Research & Review, Social Science & Medicine and other journals.
