Carolina honors Katherine LeMasters for outstanding public service

Katherine LeMasters, a doctoral student of epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, received an Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for her work on the partnership-driven research project “MI-PHOTOS: Mothers Informing Pregnancy and Postpartum Health Outcomes Through StOry Sharing.”

Three Gillings students awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

UNC-based NC Policy Collaboratory to receive state funds to study and fight coronavirus

The N.C. Policy Collaboratory, based at UNC-Chapel Hill, will receive $29 million to study the treatment, community testing and prevention of COVID-19 under a $1.5 billion coronavirus relief package. The University has been on the forefront of national coronavirus research, thanks in large part to the efforts of researchers at the Gillings School.

Gillings alumnus appointed CEO of Community Care of North Carolina

The Board of Directors of Community Care of North Carolina, Inc., has announced the appointment of CCNC President Tom Wroth, MD, MPH, as the organization's new Chief Executive Officer. Wroth — who is an alumnus of the Gillings School — will take on the new role beginning July 1, 2020.

EVHybridNoire, founded by Gillings alumna, recognized for health equity work

In 2005, Shelley Francis, DrPH, graduated from the maternal and child health department at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. In 2016, she co-founded a national nonprofit organization, EVHybridNoire, to address transportation, mobility and environmental health equity.

Four Gillings community members honored for achievements in teaching, mentoring, research and service

The Gillings School has announced the 2020 winners of four of the School's most prestigious awards – the Bernard G. Greenberg Alumni Endowment Award, the John E. Larsh Jr. Award for Mentorship, the Edward G. McGavran Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Harriet Hylton Barr Distinguished Alumni Award.
