September 28, 2018 Hurricane Florence brought heavy rains and catastrophic flooding to parts of North and South Carolina. The Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute was among the first responders, helping to ensure that infants and children stayed safe and well-fed in the aftermath of the storm.

September 19, 2018 Researchers at three universities will join together to form Advancing Science & Practice in the Retail Environment (ASPiRE). The project’s goal is to build a strong scientific evidence base for effective policies in the retail environment to help reduce tobacco use, tobacco-related disparities and the public health burden of tobacco, including cancer.
Keil and Fry awarded NIH grant to study relationship of toxic metals in private wells with birth defects

Study finds menthol cigarette marketing targets African-Americans

A new study led by UNC researchers has reported that the leading menthol brand has a unique pattern of targeting their marketing to African-Americans.
Chen selected for AAUW award focused on ‘expanding women’s potential’
August 7, 2018 Elizabeth Chen, doctoral student in health behavior, was awarded an AAUW American Dissertation Fellowship by the American Association of University Women. Chen is developing a scale to measure the acceptability of mobile health (mHealth) interventions among teens.
