Jeffries joins the NUATRC Scientific Advisory Panel
Professor Harvey Jeffries was recently appointed to a six-year term on the Science Advisory Panel (SAP) for the Mickey Leland National Urban Air Toxics Research Center (NUATRC). The SAP is comprised of scientists from a number of disciplines, including exposure assessors, epidemiologists, respiratory physiologists, toxicologists and statisticians, drawn from government, academic, and private sector institutions. Of the eleven member SAP, Jeffries is the only chemist and modeler.
Jeffries made a presentation at a workshop sponsored by NUATRC for Researchers and Policymakers on October 17-18, 2005 in Houston Texas. A handout of his presentation, “Air Toxics: What We Know, What We Don’t Know, and What We Need to Know” is available at: /files/2013/07/hej_naturbtoxresctroct1805.pdf The mission of the NUATRC is to develop and support research which will yield a better understanding of the potential risks posed to human health by exposure to air toxics. This center was authorized by the U.S. Congress in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and incorporated in 1991. It is named after the late Congressman Mickey Leland, whose efforts on behalf of public health contributed significantly to the passage of key amendments to the Clean Air Act. |
