Adimora appointed to NIAID Advisory Council

Adaora Adimora, MD, MPH, adjunct professor of epidemiology at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been appointed to the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The council comprises 18 voting members with diverse perspectives on science, health and the human impact of disease. They advise NIAID on policy and programs, perform second-level reviews and develop concepts for research proposal requests.
Adimora, professor of medicine in the UNC School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases, will serve a four-year term.
NIAID is one of the 27 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NIH is part of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the primary federal agency for conducting and supporting basic, clinical and translational medical research, and its scientists investigate the causes, treatments and cures for both common and rare diseases.
