Sacoby Wilson named Robert Wood Johnson Health & Society Scholar

Sacoby Wilson (Ph.D., Ball Advisor) has won a Robert Wood Johnson Health & Society Scholarship. This top honor supports up to 18 outstanding individuals who have completed doctoral training to engage in an intensive two-year interdisciplinary program in population health at one of six nationally prominent universities. Sacoby will receive annual stipend support of $77,000 for year one and $80,000 for year two; health insurance; and access to financial support for research-related expenses, training workshops and travel to professional meetings. Sacoby will work at the University of Michigan where the program emphasizes the importance of linking a multi-level array of causal factors to understand and improve population health and eliminate the great health divides within society.Sacoby presented his doctoral dissertation final oral defense on June 16, 2005 and will graduate in August, 2005. His dissertation research focuses on environmental monitoring and spatiotemporal mapping and estimation of atmospheric ammonia levels at human receptor locations in close proximity to concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in Eastern North Carolina.
