Our reputation

UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is not only one of the largest public health schools in the country, it is one of the most consistently recognized for excellence. We are ranked the top public school of public health in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (2012 edition) and placed second among all public health schools. Several of our departments and programs have been recognized as among the best in the country. Please see our national rankings below to find out more.

Our faculty and staff also receive frequent recognition for their excellence in education, research and leadership in public health. While it would be impossible to list every award and honor, our recognition and awards section below highlights some of the most recent. Recognition often comes from the news media, too. Our News page lists some of the more recent media coverage of our school or its research, faculty, staff and students.

Many of our School’s faculty, staff and students receive financial awards, leadership appointments and other forms of recognition for their excellence in teaching, research and service.

Our faculty members serve the public, not only in the classroom and laboratory, but also as leaders and catalysts in national and international public health arenas. Our dedicated staff contribute to the School’s success and national reputation, and our students are the public health leaders of tomorrow.

It would be impossible for us to capture every honor, award and distinction received by those in our school community, so we’ve highlighted just a few recent accomplishments below.
