 Melissa Asmar BSPH NUTR student has recently been inducted for Spring 2009 into Phi Beta Kappa, honorary society for academic excellence. Congratulations!  Kiyah Duffey received a Graduate Education Advancement Board (GEAB) Impact Award from the UNC-CH Graduate School for 2008-2009 which recognizes outstanding graduate student research of particular benefit to North Carolina. Congratulations!  Anna Garcia, has received a Sarah Steele Danhoff Undergraduate Research Award for 2009-2010. Her research advisor is Dr. Nobuyo Maeda. Congratulations to Anna!  Alison Gustafson received a Smith Graduate Research Grant for Fall 2008 from the UNC-CH Graduate School. Congratulations Alison!  Erik Karlsson, selected as a finalist for the ASN Student Interest Group (SIG) Travel Award for Experimental Biology in April 2009. Erik was also selected to receive a Smith Graduate Research Grant for Gall 2008 from the UNC-CH Graduate School. Great job!  Eva Katz awarded Carolina Program in Health and Aging Research Predoctoral Fellowship through the UNC Institute of Aging, starting 9/30/08. Congratulations!  Scott Ickes has been awarded an Off-Campus Dissertation Research Fellowship for Fall 2009. Scott, received a Smith Graduate Research Grant for Fall 2008 from the UNC-CH Graduate School. He also has been awarded an Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship for Spring 2009 for his research proposal recognizing issues and challenges involved with interdisciplinary research. The Office for Undergraduate Research has recently awarded a Graduate Mentor Support Grant to May May for her excellent work with undergraduate mentoring. Thanks for supporting Carolina undergraduates!  Stephanie Lu received the North Carolina Dietetic Association’s Outstanding Dietetics Award for 2009 in the Coordinated Program category. Nicole Schwerbrock, finalist for the ASN Student Interest Group (SIG)’s Travel Award for Experimental Biology in April 2009. She is a recipient of the ASN Cargill Predoctoral Fellowship for 2009 award to recognize the excellence of her project entitled “Impaired resistance to influenza infection in fish-oil fed mice”. Fanny Teng is the recipient of the McNeil Nutritionals Predoctoral Fellowship for 2009 with a $5000 award. Congratulations Fanny!  Natalie The, recipient of The Mars, Inc. Predoctoral Fellowship for 2009 award to recognize the excellence of her proposal project entitled Determinants of Pre-Diabetes during the transition from Adolescence to Adulthood. Congratulations Natalie!  Amanda Velazquez received the Professor George V. Taylor Honors Undergraduate Research Award for 2008-2009. Congratulations Amanda!  Jessica Ellis Wilcox, selected as one of twelve winners in the 2008 American Society for Nutrition Proctor and Gamble Graduate Student Research Awards abstract competition. Congratulations Jessica!
