Dr. Jeanne Lambrew

Jeanne Lambrew, PhD, will present the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health’s 42nd annual Fred T. Foard Jr. Memorial Lecture on Thursday, April 15 at 6 p.m. at The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Lambrew, an alumna of the School, is director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Health Reform.

A reception will follow the lecture at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to joining the Office of Health Reform, Lambrew was associate professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs in Austin, Texas, where she specialized in health care and policy and conducted research on Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care and the uninsured. While there, she also served as senior fellow for health policy at the Center for American Progress.

From 1997 to 2001, she served as program associate director for health at the White House Office of Management and Budget and as senior health analyst on the National Economic Council. In these roles, she helped coordinate health policy development, evaluated legislative proposals, and conducted and managed analyses and cost estimates with the Department of Health and Human Services and other relevant federal agencies.

Lambrew led White House efforts to draft and implement the Children’s Health Insurance Program and helped develop the president’s Medicare reform plan, initiative on long-term care and other health care proposals. She also worked at the Department of Health and Human Services during the 1993-1994 health reform efforts and coordinated analyses of budget proposals in 1995.

Lambrew also has served on the faculties of Georgetown University and The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

She received her master’s and doctoral degrees in health policy and administration from UNC’s public health school and her bachelor’s degree from Amherst College.

The Fred T. Foard Jr. Memorial Lecture was established in 1969 by Dr. Foard’s widow, Elsie D. Foard, to honor him as a public health practitioner whose career spanned more than a half-century, much of it with the U.S. Public Health Service.

The events are free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Please register online, or for more information, contact the School’s Office of External Affairs at (919) 966-0198.
