James K. Edzwald recipient of 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering is pleased to announce Dr. James K. Edzwald as the recipient of an ESE Distinguished Alumnus Award for 2005 and featured guest at the Department’s biannual Open House held on October 15, 2005. Edzwald has held positions at several universities during his distinguished career and is currently a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Edzwald received his BS in Civil Engineering in 1964 and his MS in Environmental Health Engineering in 1968 from the University of Maryland. He received his PhD in Water Resources Engineering in 1972 from UNC. Edzwald has made substantial contributions to the peer-reviewed literature in water resources including the development of indicators for Total Organic Carbon and improvements in the use of coagulation, filtration and dissolved air flotation for drinking water treatment. He has served as a consultant on numerous water projects. During his academic career he has advised and taught students at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level. The quality of his instruction has been recognized by his receipt of several teaching awards. Edzwald received the A.P. Black Research Award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for his career contributions to the field of water science and water supply.ESE is proud of James K. Edzwald and his accomplishments. He is most deserving of this recognition as an ESE Distinguished Alumnus.
