Don Holzworth, chairman, Futures Group International, has been named an “executive in residence” at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. In this role at the School, Holzworth will advise groups and individuals, including faculty and students, on matters such as strategic planning for potentially high impact areas including obesity, water and environment, global health and overcoming health disparities and the identification of potential funding partners. He will work across the School and on projects specifically funded by Carolina Public Health Solutions, the group within the School that manages the $50 million gift to the School from Dennis and Joan Gillings. Holzworth is a member of the School’s Advisory Council and Carolina Public Health Solution’s Acceleration Advisory Committee. He also is an adjunct professor of health policy and management. He founded the Constella Group in 1991 and sold it in 2007 to SRA International. In 2008, Holzworth acquired Constella Futures from SRA establishing Futures Group International, LLC. In 2003 and again in 2007, the North Carolina Council for Entrepreneurial Development recognized Holzworth with its Entrepreneurial Excellence Award. In 2005, Ernst & Young named Holzworth as a Carolinas Entrepreneur of the Year®. “Don Holzworth has proved himself invaluable to the School as a visionary advisor who exemplifies the capacity to anticipate future public health challenges, domestic and global, and to accelerate scalable solutions,” said Julie MacMillan, managing director, Carolina Public Health Solutions. “Students and faculty alike are energized by their interactions with Don.” Holzworth is expected to spend one or two days a month on School activities.
