Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology was well represented at the 46th annual meeting of the Society for Epidemiologic Research, held in Boston, June 18-21.

UNC faculty presented talks and participated in panels (Andy Olshan, PhD, professor and chair of the department); led symposia (Stephen Cole, PhD, associate professor, and Whitney Robinson, PhD, assistant professor), and led roundtables (Daniel Westreich, PhD, assistant professor).

The 42 UNC-affiliated abstracts at the meeting included a number of student posters and oral presentations, as well as two poster awards – a first-place win for Westreich and a second-place award for doctoral student Lydia Feinstein.

“UNC faculty, students and alumni were everywhere at SER this year,” Olshan said. “More than once I received ribbing about the omnipresence of UNC folks! We’re so proud of the 40 attendees affiliated with the Gillings School, 30 of whom were students.”

Established in 1967 for the purpose of engaging student and other new researchers with senior faculty members in meaningful ways, the Society for Epidemiologic Research is committed to epidemiologists’ being at the vanguard of scientific developments.
