A campaign poster for Jasmin Jones

If you have ever studied in the Health Sciences Library until closing hours, you might have met Jasmin Jones. She works at the front desk on the first floor in the evenings. Amid working as a part time librarian, double majoring in Journalism: Public Relations and International Studies, and being actively involved on campus in many organizations, she is also one of six undergraduates running for Student Body President (SBP). (See links to all of them below.)

 Jasmin declares that:

“I am running for Student Body President because I believe that I have the skills, talent, and vision to make the student government become a stronger and more visible organization. I have worked with the student government since my first year at Carolina, which has helped build my experience and understanding for the role of this organization on campus. I want to make this organization reach out to all students, both undergraduate and graduate students, in order to make our Carolina experience even better. I want students to connect with each other and this university through their own way, allowing student government to be medium for fostering these relations. I know that I can make this organization become a power house for connecting students to the great opportunities that Carolina has to offer.”

Jasmin loves to “hold conversations with anyone who crosses [her] path” and she encourages comments and suggestions. She hopes to better connect students in the General College and with students in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health (SPH). She wants to involve more students (including those who are distance learners), parents, and post-docs and optimize the “Carolina Experience” for everyone.

UNC student government elections are February 10, 2009. Students, both undergraduate and graduate, can vote on studentcentral.unc.edu.

This article is not intended to endorse a particular candidate for SBP. The SPH Office of Student Affairs does not endorse candidates for any office. Ms. Jones was selected for a feature story to encourage SPH students to engage in main campus elections and because of her connection to the Health Sciences Library, which is used by many SPH students. <p”> <p”>
