Li, whose term of service will run from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2021, was selected on the basis of her demonstrated competence and achievement in biostatistics, as evidenced by quality of research accomplishments, publications in journals, and other scientific activities, achievements and honors.

“Service on a study section requires mature judgment and objectivity as well as the ability to work effectively in a group, qualities we believe Dr. Li will bring to this important task,” wrote Richard Nakamura, PhD, Center for Scientific Review director.

Study sections review grant applications submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), make recommendations on the applications to appropriate NIH advisory councils and survey the status of research in their scientific fields.

Li, a member of the UNC biostatistics faculty since 2009, conducts research on the development of statistical methods and computational tools, particularly as related to the application of those methods and tools to the genetic dissection of complex metabolic, cardiovascular, autoimmune and other diseases.

“This is a great honor for Yun,” said Jianwen Cai, PhD, Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor and interim chair of biostatistics at the Gillings School. “Her contributions to the study section will provide an important service to the profession.”
