Study finds association of childhood abuse, neglect with misuse of prescription opioids in early adulthood

March 4, 2018 A new study by Gillings School investigators examines the association of childhood abuse and neglect with prescription opioid misuse in early adulthood-- and the role of pain and depressive symptoms in adolescence in this association. Doctoral student Anna Austin and Dr. Meghan Shanahan are study co-authors.

Health policy and management senior named Luce Scholar

March 2, 2018 Leah Everist, an undergraduate health policy and management student at the Gillings School, has been selected as a 2018 Luce Scholar by the Henry Luce Foundation. Everist will take part in a year-long internship in community preparedness and disaster response in Asia.

Health indicators for newborns of breast cancer survivors may vary by cancer type

February 6, 2018 For breast cancer survivors, the risk of giving birth prematurely, and of other health concerns for their newborns, may depend upon the type of breast cancer they had, according to a study led by Dr. Hazel Nichols. The study was published Jan. 4 in the International Journal of Cancer.
