Valverde hunts for COVID-19 hotspots
November 16, 2020 Gillings School alumnus and instuctor Eduardo Valverde works with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as senior health scientist in the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). His experience evaluating NCHHSTP programs came in handy when he was deployed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Study finds source of COVID-19 messaging impacts effectiveness
September 1, 2020 According to new research published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, COVID-19 prevention messaging is more effective when attributed to a health organization rather than the president of the United States.
Harrison elected board vice president of the National Association of County and City Health Officials
August 4, 2020 The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) elected UNC Gillings School alumna Lisa Macon Harrison as vice president of the organization’s 2020–2021 board of directors. She has served as director of the Granville Vance District Health Department in North Carolina since 2012.

First MPH@UNC online cohort graduates from Gillings School
May 19, 2020 On May 10, 640 students officially became graduates of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Among that number, 13 stood out as the first cohort to graduate from MPH@UNC, the Gillings School’s online Master of Public Health program.
