Gillings School’s breastfeeding institute awarded major grant from The Duke Endowment
November 30, 2017 The Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute, based at the Gillings School, has been awarded a 3-year, $830,000 grant from The Duke Endowment. The grant will be used to expand CGBI’s work with hospitals and communities in North and South Carolina for the purpose of promoting and supporting breastfeeding.

October 18, 2017 Drs. Dilshad Jaff and Lewis Margolis are co-authors of an essay, which appears in the book, Societies Emerging From Conflict: The Aftermath of Atrocity, on the burden of mental illness in war-torn areas of the Middle East.
Study examines characteristics of deaths from drug overdose in North Carolina
October 17, 2017 According to study findings by maternal and child health doctoral student Anna Austin, death by drug overdose is an important and continuing public health concern in the U.S. The average self-inflicted drug overdose victim was 50 years old, female and white. In contrast, the average unintentional drug overdose victim was a 43-year-old male. Austin's findings were published Oct. 10 in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
2017 UNC-IntraHealth fellows explored wide range of health topics in summer program
October 15, 2017 Graduates of the eighth annual UNC-IntraHealth Summer Fellows Program spent 10 weeks working with global health professionals at IntraHealth International, taking part in projects that focused on HIV-related stigma, sexual discrimination at work, and other public health topics. Graduates of the program are Saja Al-Falahi, Alex Dest, Yutaka Endo and Kati Jackson.
Sullivan selected as Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics fellow
October 4, 2017 Catherine Sullivan, director of the Gillings School's Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute, was selected as a fellow in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
