About

Mannat (she/her) is a third year doctoral student and her research focuses on the health needs and resilience of sexual and gender minority communities in the US. She currently works on a project at the RISE Lab (Department of Social Medicine, UNC School of Medicine) about the mental health impacts of chronic stress amongst Black and Latinx transgender women. Specifically, she is leading Intersectionality-informed longitudinal in-depth interviews about mental health and stress, experiences with gender affirming hormone therapy and multi-level resilience. Mannat also serves as the teaching assistant for HBEH 812 and 813 Professional Development. Prior to joining UNC, Mannat worked at the Center for Public Health and Human Rights (Johns Hopkins School of Public Health) as a research coordinator, leading implementation for several community-engaged observational and evaluation studies related to HIV-related health disparities in LGBTQ populations. Other areas of interest include health impacts of structural violence, gender-based violence, community-created health interventions, community-engaged research dissemination methods and structural equation modeling.
