Addie Melsheimer Imseis, MPH, BSN, RN

Project Director
Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice

About

When Addie and her husband decided to relocate with their children from South Louisiana after having lived there their entire lives, they planned vacations around the U.S. visiting areas that they may want to consider to live, consciously spending their time as locals in each location. Once they visited the Triangle, they knew that they found their new home.

Addie works as the Project Director for the Building Veteran Healthy Communities project, a quality improvement project which aims to develop a public health model to address community level factors that positively impact Veteran mental health and wellbeing. She is a member of the PHield Innovation Lab (PHIL) team within the Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice. Additionally, Addie has provided strategic support to North Carolina Institute of Public Health (NCIPH) in their work with ASTHO’s Summer Leadership Summit held at UNC in July 2023.

Prior to arriving at Gillings, a few of Addie’s professional achievements include leading the local governmental response to COVID-19 in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; co-writing the Louisiana Medicaid prescription opioid point of sale policy; and consulting with Louisiana Supreme Court Adult Drug Court and 24th Judicial District Court programs providing evidence-based recommendations for change in the quality improvement assessment tool and program implementation.

Addie is a Registered Nurse, having graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Twenty years after her first degree, Addie decided to further her higher education and now holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health with concentration in Health Policy and Systems Management from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. At every opportunity, she excitedly shares with others the advantages of furthering one’s education mid-career and encourages others to follow their educational dreams.

Addie enjoys gardening, needlepoint, and yoga. She also loves traveling, specifically taking long, loosely-planned road trips with her family.
