December 12, 2017
Stephanie B. Wheeler, PhD, associate professor of health policy and management at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been named the College of Charleston’s 2017 Distinguished Alumna.
The award was established in 1983 to recognize alumni who have made significant contributions to their professions or communities over a long period of time.
Wheeler, who graduated in 2003 from the College of Charleston’s Honors College with degrees in biology and theater, earned a master’s degree in public health at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2010 and a doctorate in health policy and management at the UNC Gillings School. She joined the Gillings School faculty in 2010.
“Dr. Wheeler’s cutting-edge research will benefit millions of patients and their families,” said Ann Looper Pryor, vice president of alumni affairs at the College of Charleston. “The awards committee was inspired by her outstanding achievements, particularly so early in her career. We are very proud of the honor Dr. Wheeler reflects upon her alma mater and know this is only the beginning of her long and bright career.”
Wheeler was recognized at a reception held as part of the College of Charleston’s Fall Alumni Weekend on Nov. 18.
