Simms recognized with NAHSE’s Health Services Executive Award

Jeffrey Simms, MSPH, MDiv, assistant professor of health policy and management at the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been selected as the Senior Health Services Executive of the Year by the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).
Simms, who also is director of student life and alumni relations for the health policy and management department, accepted the award at the 33rd annual NAHSE conference, held Oct. 10-12, in Orlando, Fla.
The prestigious award recognizes an individual who has a national reputation for leadership and vision, commitment to the advancement and development of African-American health care professionals and a record of successfully developing the careers of young health care professionals.
“NAHSE’s mission is ‘to provide a vehicle for African-Americans to participate effectively in the design, direction and delivery of quality health care for all people,’” noted Morris Weinberger, PhD, Vergil N. Slee Distinguished Professor of Healthcare Quality Management and chair of the health policy and management department at the Gillings School. “Jeffrey embodies what NAHSE seeks to recognize through this prestigious award. Certainly, anyone who has worked with him recognizes Jeffrey’s passion for mentoring, teaching and developing the careers of our students while they are here and long after they graduate. He is committed to the establishment of a diverse and inclusive environment, both at UNC and in the health care delivery system.”
