The prestigious award recognizes an individual who has a national reputation for leadership and vision, commitment to the advancement and development of African-American health care professionals and a record of successfully developing the careers of young health care professionals.

“NAHSE’s mission is ‘to provide a vehicle for African-Americans to participate effectively in the design, direction and delivery of quality health care for all people,’” noted Morris Weinberger, PhD, Vergil N. Slee Distinguished Professor of Healthcare Quality Management and chair of the health policy and management department at the Gillings School. “Jeffrey embodies what NAHSE seeks to recognize through this prestigious award. Certainly, anyone who has worked with him recognizes Jeffrey’s passion for mentoring, teaching and developing the careers of our students while they are here and long after they graduate. He is committed to the establishment of a diverse and inclusive environment, both at UNC and in the health care delivery system.”
