The UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and its Gillings Global Gateway™ are partnering with RTI International on a newly awarded U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) contract for services in Africa. RTI International is a prime contractor for Technical Assistance and Support for the Africa Region (TASC4 – AFRICA), which also will include partnerships with eleven other organizations.

The TASC4-Africa project offers USAID field operating units an effective and efficient way to access customized and flexible services in support of programs to improve people’s health—especially the health of women, children and other vulnerable populations—through expansion of basic health services including family planning, strengthened national health systems, and addressing of global issues and special concerns such as HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.

USAID will issue task orders as specific needs arise, and the partnership will tailor services to fit the region’s needs.

“The Gillings School of Global Public Health has worked with RTI International colleagues for many years,” said Peggy Bentley, PhD, Carla Smith Chamblee Distinguished Professor of nutrition and associate dean for global health at the Gillings School. “We are grateful to have the chance to work even more closely with them as the TASC4 projects evolve. Given the breadth of global health problems that TASC4 is designed to address in the region, we hope to engage many students and members of our faculty and staff in the next several years.”

Other organizations partnering with RTI International on the TASC4-Africa consortium include the African Population and Health Research Center, American International Health Alliance, BBC Media Action, Brandeis University, CAMRISDAI, East Central and Southern Africa Health CommunityFutures Institute, International Medical CorpsManagement Systems International and Meridian Group International Inc.
