UNC Gillings School to host new CDC center for outbreak forecasting, response
September 19, 2023 The Gillings School is one of 13 funded partners working with the CDC’s Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics to establish the Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling (ODAM) Network. This funding will support the creation of the Atlantic Coast Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics and Analytics, which will serve as the OADM Coordinating Center and as a Center of Innovation.
Hincapie-Castillo named Mayday Fund fellow to improve care for chronic pain

Studying the genetics of heart attacks and strokes in Hispanic populations
February 10, 2023 A $2.5 million grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute will allow researchers from UNC-Chapel Hill and Penn State to examine the genetic underpinnings of heart attack and stroke in Hispanic populations from across the Americas.

UNC researchers to use $3 million grant to improve cervical cancer screening and treatment
December 16, 2022 The National Cancer Institute has awarded UNC researchers a five-year, $3 million grant to help develop studies to assess approaches to scalable, cost-effective screening and treatment strategies to prevent cervical cancer among women living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries and in underserved communities in the U.S.

Martin receives 2022 Gillings Faculty Award for Excellence in Health Equity Research
September 22, 2022 Dr. Chantel Martin will receive this year’s Gillings Faculty Award for Excellence in Health Equity Research. Martin is an emerging national leader in research to understand how structural factors and social stressors in the U.S. become biologically embodied to impact health outcomes among racially and ethnically minoritized groups and produce health inequities.
