New scholarship honors community health pioneer John Hatch
February 23, 2024 Piedmont Health Services, Inc. has established a new scholarship at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in honor of community health pioneer Dr. John Hatch '75. The scholarship was unveiled at the School's Engage alumni event on February 22 at the Gillings School.
Gillings School announces 6 GIL awards to study generative AI in public health
December 14, 2023 As part of the eighth round of Gillings Innovation Labs, six faculty members were awarded $100,000 each to pursue research using generative artificial intelligence (gAI) that focuses on solving real-world problems over the next two years.

Professorship supports Fry's work toward healthier N.C.
March 16, 2023 Rebecca Fry’s lab is one of the first to study the effects of prenatal exposure to toxic metals as it relates to the epigenome — she has shown how behaviors and the environment can cause changes that affect the way genes function. She launched the Institute for Environmental Health Solutions and is using funds from the Angle Professorship and the UNC Superfund Research Program, which she directs, to work with North Carolina communities that have contaminated drinking water and provide them with cost-effective filters.
