Sullivan selected as Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics fellow

Catherine Sullivan, MPH, RD, LDN, IBCLC, director of the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute (CGBI) and clinical assistant professor of maternal and child health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been selected as a fellow in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
Fellowship in the Academy signifies that a member has lived up to the Academy’s values of customer focus, integrity, innovation and social responsibility. The designation recognizes Sullivan’s commitment to the field of dietetics and celebrates her professional accomplishments and pursuit of lifelong learning. She has worked in food, nutrition and breastfeeding for more than 20 years and has been a registered dietitian for 16 years.
Most recently, Sullivan chaired the Academy’s Women’s Health Dietetic Practice Group, whose nearly 800 members focus on the life course, health and well-being of women. She will serve as immediate past chair during the coming year.
Named CGBI director in 2016, Sullivan has served since 2013 as director of the Institute’s Mary Rose Tully Training Initiative, the first breastfeeding training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. She also leads programs and research in lactation training and in the areas of breastfeeding-friendly health care, child care and communities.
Sullivan and CGBI project director Kathy Parry, MPH, IBCLC, LMBT, will be invited presenters at the Academy’s 2017 Centennial Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition, to be held Oct. 21-24 in Chicago.
