NIH funds community engagement research efforts in areas hardest hit by COVID-19

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced a $12 million award for outreach and engagement efforts in ethnic and racial minority communities that are being disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The award — made to RTI International — will support teams in 11 states that are part of the NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities. In North Carolina, the CEAL principal investigator is Dr. Anissa I. Vines of the UNC Gillings School.

Linnan honored with paper of the year award for research on workplace health in America

Dr. Laura Linnan is first author on a paper about workplace health in the United States that has been chosen by the American Journal of Health Promotion as the Editor-in-Chief Paper of the Year for 2019 and one of nine on the “Best of 2019 List.”

Devlin named chair of CDC Foundation’s Board of Directors

Dr. Leah McCall Devlin has been named chair of the CDC Foundation Board of Directors. The CDC Foundation is an independent nonprofit created by the United States Congress to mobilize philanthropic and private-sector resources to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s critical health protection work.
