Being Public and Engaging Policy Seminar

October 23, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Academics are increasingly asked to engage with public actors from policymakers to journalists. Rarely, however, are academics given any guidance or strategies for doing so. In this lecture, Dr. Ray will provide strategies for interacting with journalists, policymakers, and bureaucrats. In addition to publishing over 50 books, articles, and book chapters, Ray has given presentations on Capitol Hill and written roughly 20 op-eds for New York Times, Huffington Post, NBC News, and more.

Rashawn Ray is a Rubenstein Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Executive Director of the Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR) at the University of Maryland, College Park. Ray is also one of the co-editors of Contexts Magazine: Sociology for the Public.
