Rowley is a professor emeritus with the Gillings School’s Department of Maternal and Child Health; a medical epidemiologist; and a renowned researcher whose work focuses on disparities and inequities in pregnancy and infant health. Her late husband, Bill Jenkins, PhD, was an alumnus of the Gillings School and an adjunct professor of epidemiology. He worked with a small group of Black federal employees in the late 1960s to bring national attention to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.
