Yingqi Zhao

Yingqi Zhao, biostatistics doctoral student at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has received the Statistics in Epidemiology Young Investigator Award from the American Statistical Association’s Statistics in Epidemiology Section. Zhao presented her research and received the award at the August Joint Statistical Meetings in Vancouver.

The JSM is the largest gathering of statisticians held in North America. Usually attended by more than 5,000 people, JSM includes members of the American Statistical Association, International Biometric Society (both eastern and western North American regions, ENAR and WNAR), Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Society of Canada, International Chinese Statistical Association and International Indian Statistical Association.

Zhao worked with School faculty members Michael Kosorok, PhD, professor and chair of the biostatistics department, Donglin Zeng, PhD, and Amy Herring, ScD, associate professors of biostatistics, and David Richardson, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology, to analyze the asthma incidence data in North Carolina in 2006-2007.

“Yingqui is a very talented and hard-working student,” Kosorok said, “and this award reflects her emerging excellent leadership skills in research.”
