Brittan Wood

Brittan Williams Wood, MPH, received the Charles G. Jordan Memorial Award at the N.C. Public Health Association/Southern Health Association joint conference in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 22. Wood is accreditation administrator with UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health’s N.C. Institute for Public Health (NCIPH).

The annual award, presented by the Southern Health Association, is given to those who have made direct contributions to the health and well-being of people in the southern U.S. and who demonstrate potential for high achievement in the field of public health.

“We are proud to have Brittan Wood as a member of our team and especially pleased that others have recognized her talents,” said NCIPH director Anna Schenck, PhD. Schenck is also director of the public health school’s Public Health Leadership Program and its associate dean for public health practice.

Wood also received two awards from the N.C. Public Health Association (NCPHA) – the “Public Health All-Star” citation, awarded to a person whose work and spirit epitomize public health, and the association’s Special Award, for outstanding contributions to NCPHA.

“Brittan is passionate about public health,” the All-Star citation reads, in part. “She is dedicated to improving the health of all citizens in North Carolina…. She was schooled and trained as a health educator and instilled with the values of prevention, as well as a broad, community-based perspective of health.”

Wood earned a Master of Public Health degree in community health education in 2005 from UNC-Greensboro. Following graduation, she served as health education program manager for the Rockingham County Department of Public Health for two years. She joined the NCIPH staff in 2007.
