Greg Characklis, PhD, professor of environmental sciences and engineering, will make opening remarks about the water issues addressed in the film. Characklis is director of the Institute for the Environment’s Center for Watershed Science and Management and an expert on water resource management.

Last Call at the Oasis, developed, financed and produced by Participant Media, the company responsible for An Inconvenient Truth, Food Inc., and Waiting for ‘Superman,’ argues that the global water crisis will be the central global challenge of this century. The film illuminates the vital role of water in nature and human society, exposes the defects in our current water system, and portrays communities struggling with water scarcity and quality.

It features experts including Peter Gleick, head of the Pacific Institute; Alex Prud’homme, author of The Ripple Effect Jay Famiglietti, a hydrologist and professor at the University of California, Irvine; and Robert Glennon, a law and public policy professor at the University of Arizona. Activist Erin Brockovich also is featured.

Seating will be limited to the first 130 attendees.
