The North Carolina Center for Public Health Preparedness (NCCPHP) will receive over $1 million in renewed funding from the Centers for Disease Control and the Prevention this year.Formed in 2000, NCCPHP is part of the School of Public Health’s Institute for Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

NCCPHP works to improve the skills of public health professionals to prepare for and respond to terrorism and other emerging public health threats.

One undertaking of NCCPHP has been the creation of a training Web site with more than 100 free online training courses on topics such as surveillance, public health law, and forensic epidemiology.

NCCPHP also publishes the FOCUS on Field Epidemiology bi-monthly online periodical; coordinates the Online Certificate Program in Field Epidemiology; provides the www.PublicHealthPreparedness.org online learning management system; supplies assistance and training to state and local epidemiology teams; and coordinates Team EpiAid — students volunteering assistance to health departments statewide when public health issues arise.
