UNC-CEHS Center Director participates in panel discussion with Birnbaum, Congress

James Swenberg, UNC-CEHS Center Director, participated in a panel discussion with NIEHS Director Linda Birnbaum and U.S. Representative David Price highlighting the benefits of Federally-funded research at the NIEHS campus in Research Triangle Park, NC. Swenberg emphasized the close collaboration between UNC and NIEHS, and discussed their environmental health research, training opportunities, and community outreach facilitated by Federal funding. Birnbaum and Price acknowledged the fiscal challenges surrounding current policy discussions and suggested that scientists must be more proactive than ever in informing policy makers and the public about the practical benefits of Federally-funded research.
