Virginia Suarez, an alumna of the Public Health Leadership Program, and her faculty adviser, Cheryll Lesneski, have written a paper that has been accepted for publication by the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH).

The article, “Making the Case for Using Financial Indicators in Local Public Health Agencies,” is based on Ms. Suarez’s masters paper and examines some of the ways that hospitals are using financial indicators to monitor financial risk, promote organizational sustainability, and improve organizational capacity. As financial indicators have not generally been employed by public health practitioners, the paper discusses how these practices may be applied to local public health agencies to improve their organizational capacity.

AJPH is the official Journal of the American Public Health Association and is dedicated to publication of original work in research, research methods, and program evaluation in the field of public health. Its mission is to advance public health research, policy, practice, and education.
