Students win Kenan-Flagler Healthcare Case Competition

Three health policy and management students at the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health won first prize in the second annual UNC Healthcare Case Competition, hosted by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School’s Healthcare Club on Oct. 26-27 in Chapel Hill.
The students, Aditi Borde (MHA/MBA ’20), Matthew Ditto, MHA, and Joseph Reilly (MSPH/MBA ’20), and their teammates Jackie Gerhart, PhD, from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and Sean Grim, MBA, of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, competed against eight other UNC teams to provide innovative solutions to the real-world health care challenge of diabetes in rural communities.
The team will represent UNC in a national competition on Nov. 10.
Two other dual-degree health policy and management students were on teams that won second and third prize in the UNC competition. Melissa Atlas (MSPH/MBA ’20) was on the second-place team, and Lillie Molavi (MSPH/MBA ’20) was on the third-place team.
The UNC Healthcare Case Competition is designed to leverage students’ unique learning and career experiences by challenging them to develop an innovative solution to a relevant health care issue. Graduates students have the opportunity to showcase their leadership, critical thinking skills and creativity and are able to network with other future leaders in the health care field.
