Powell receives APA Professional of the Year Award

Wizdom Powell, PhD, assistant professor of health behavior at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has received a Professional of the Year Award from the American Psychological Association. She will accept the award at the national APA conference in Washington, D.C., Aug. 7-10, during which she also will present a keynote address.
The award letter noted that Powell’s research, service and advocacy for boys and men has been significant and that her commitment and contributions in the field and within the APA’s Division 51 were appreciated.
Powell, who received her doctorate from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar at University of California – San Francisco/Berkeley from 2005 to 2007. She joined the Gillings School faculty in 2007.
