Nutrition student wins NC Dietetic Association’s leadership award
July 14, 2016
Courtney Luecking, doctoral student in nutrition at UNC’s Gillings School of Global Public Health, has won the North Carolina Dietetics Association’s (NCDA) Emerging Dietetic Leader Award for 2015-2016.
The award recognizes the competence and activities of dietitians who have made distinctive contributions early in their careers to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The NCDA aims to optimize North Carolinians’ health through food and nutrition and empower NCDA members to be the state’s food and nutrition leaders.
“Courtney represents a new breed of nutrition researchers who value the importance of policy makers, such as those in state and national government, in improving child health,” said Dianne Stanton Ward, EdD, professor of nutrition at the Gillings School and Luecking’s adviser. “She is an emerging leader among nutrition scholars who are translating science into public practice to improve the lives of North Carolinians – and we are proud of her accomplishments.”
Luecking also was a 2014-2015 Gillings Merit Scholar.
