Martin to identify interventions to support exclusive breastfeeding in Tanzania

Stephanie Martin, PhD, assistant professor of nutrition at the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, recently was awarded a one-year, $91,500 Trainee Bridge Fund Award from the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation and the Family Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation.
The award will support Martin’s research to identify potential interventions to support exclusive breastfeeding among mothers in urban Tanzania who work in the informal economy.
Peggy Bentley, PhD, Carla Smith Chamblee Distinguished Professor of Global Nutrition and associate dean for global health at the Gillings School, and members of the faculty at Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College will serve as Martin’s mentors.
