Danyu Lin, PhD, Dennis Gillings Distinguished Professor of biostatistics at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, was recently celebrated by the International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA).

Lin received the organization’s 2015 Distinguished Achievement Award, which recognizes his overall body of work.

“[We are] honored to present the Distinguished Achievement Award to Professor Danyu Lin for his outstanding scholarship and leadership in statistical and international statistics communities,” reads a statement from ICSA. “[This award also honors] his scientific contributions in survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis and statistical genetics – which have profound impact in biomedical sciences – and his excellent teaching and mentoring of young statisticians.”

Throughout his career, Lin has published more than 188 scientific papers and two books, which cover a wide range of research areas. His works are both fundamental and influential, and most are published in leading statistics and biomedical sciences journals. His profound contributions to statistical sciences have earned many distinguished honors (read more at the ICSA website).

Lin has served as an associate editor for several leading statistical journals, including Biometrika, Biometrics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Scandinavian Journal of Statistics and Statistica Sinica.

He also is an outstanding teacher and has advised 18 doctoral students, most of whom went on to secure academic jobs.

Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the Gillings School. “We are grateful to have faculty of his caliber for the benefit of our students and overall research program.”
