Carolyn Halpern, PhD, professor and chair of the Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Maternal and Child Health, has been named associate editor for public health and policy for the Journal of Adolescent Health.

The journal, a publication of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, a multidisciplinary organization committed to improving the health and well-being of adolescents, is a multidisciplinary publication which aims to advance new research findings in the field of adolescent medicine and health, from basic biological and behavior science to public health and policy.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to work with editor-in-chief Charlie Irwin and other members of the board,” Halpern said. “JAH is a premier journal, with a large and diverse audience that includes clinicians, other practitioners and researchers.”

Halpern earned master’s and doctoral degrees in developmental psychology from the University of Houston. She joined the Gillings School faculty in 1998 and was selected chair in 2014.
