Expertscape recognizes several Gillings faculty as top-rated in their fields

Expertscape ranks people and institutions by their expertise in more than 29,000 biomedical topics. The website bases its rankings on scientific publications, reviewing medical journal articles dating back to 2010 from the National Institutes of Health’s PubMed journal database. Each article is assigned a score based on a number of criteria, including the journal’s prominence and the type of article. Below are researchers affiliated with the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health who ranked among the top 20 experts in their fields.

Dr. Adaora Adimora
Adaora Adimora, MD, is the Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine. She also is a professor of epidemiology with the Gillings School. She was recognized as the number 17 expert in AIDS and HIV in the world, and number 13 in the United States.

Dr. Cynthia Bulik
Cynthia Bulik, PhD, FAED, is the Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in UNC’s Department of Psychiatry; the founding director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders; a professor of nutrition in the Gillings School; and associate director of the UNC Center for Psychiatric Genomics. She has been recognized as the number two eating disorders expert in the world and number one in the U.S.

Dr. Myron Cohen
Myron Cohen, MD, is the Yeargan-Bate Eminent Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Medicine and a professor of epidemiology with the Gillings School. He serves as associate vice chancellor for global health across UNC-Chapel Hill and is the director of UNC’s Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. He was recognized as number four in the world and the U.S. for HIV infections. He also has been recognized as the number two expert in the world and U.S. for HIV seropositivity and number five in the world and U.S. for sexually transmitted diseases.

Dr. Joseph Eron
Joseph Eron, MD, is the Herman and Louise Smith Distinguished Professor of Medicine; chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases; director of the Clinical Core at the UNC Center for AIDS Research; and associate director of the General Clinical Research Unit in UNC’s School of Medicine. Also an adjunct professor in the Gillings School’s Department of Epidemiology, he has been recognized as the number nine expert in the world in HIV infections and number eight in the U.S. He also was recognized as the number nine expert in the world in sexually transmitted diseases (number eight in the U.S.).

Dr. Ralph Baric
Ralph Baric, PhD, is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor in the Gillings School’s Department of Epidemiology and a professor of microbiology and immunology with UNC’s School of Medicine. A member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, he has been recognized as the number four expert in the world in SARS and the number three expert in the U.S.
