Scott Zimmerman, DrPH, alumnus of what is now the Gillings School of Global Public Health, was recently appointed director of the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH) in Raleigh, N.C.

NCSLPH provides certain medical and environmental laboratory services, including testing, consultation and training, to public and private health provider organizations responsible for the promotion, protection and assurance of the health of the people of North Carolina.

Zimmerman received Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health degrees from UNC’s public health school in 1985 and 1989, respectively, in parasitology and lab practice. He noted recently that, throughout his more than 20 years of public health service, he has valued partnerships between and among public health professionals, agencies and organizations across the state to identify and solve public health problems in N.C.’s communities.
