Adair selected for Center for Scientific Review study section
Linda S. Adair, PhD, professor of nutrition at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been invited to serve as a member of the Center for Scientific Review’s Social Sciences and Population Studies A Study Section.
Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline, as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other scientific activities, achievements and honors.
Section members review grant applications submitted to the National Institutes of Health, make recommendations on the applications to the appropriate NIH advisory council and survey the status of research in their scientific fields.
Adair is a biological anthropologist interested in maternal and child nutrition. She studies the response of human populations to nutritional stresses and is currently involved in a large-scale longitudinal survey of women and children in the Philippines.
“Service on a study section also requires mature judgment and objectivity, as well as the ability to work effectively in a group,” wrote Richard Nakamura, PhD, director of the Center for Scientific Review, in his appointment letter. “These are qualities we believe Dr. Adair will bring to this important task.”
Adair will serve until June 30, 2017.
